EVERGLADES FISHING REPORT

Just concluded four days on the water in the Everglades with Jason Stemple. While the weather was not all that cooperative, we had a great time and caught lots of redfish, snook, and even some tarpon.

With long runs and bad weather, it pays to run a skiff such as the Maverick 17 HPX. Being our boat of choice, the Maverick skiff is both fast and comfortable when the weather goes from bad to worse.

Our time was spent in the creeks, along the beaches of the gulf. We quickly dialed in what the snook and redfish were feeding on and caught one after another on fly before having to run home to avoid the thunderstorms. We had a couple new fly rod setups from Orvis to use on the trip. The rod I used most was the Orvis Access 8 weight and Orvis Hydros reel. I was very impressed and it handled redfish on the flats, and had no problem pulling big snook out of the mangroves.

Jason got some great photos we will share with you soon. His work can be found on the web at www.jasonstemple.com.
