Spring in the Florida Keys is when every fisherman turns their focus to Tarpon fishing. When the tarpon migration kicks off thousands of fish swim down the ocean side of the Keys. I prefer to spend my time poling for tarpon in Florida Bay and the Everglades but on certain tides and times I will cross under the bridge and throw flies at migratory tarpon swimming down the ocean. The key to catching ocean swimmers is to anchor or stake out along ocean flats or points that tarpon will swim along. Once you find a place to intercept schools of fish I use long leaders up to 18 foot with 40 pound bite tippets and very small flies tied on 1/0 hooks or smaller.

Fishing in Islamorada is phenomenal. Join Blue Moon Expeditions on a charter in the upcoming future, and learn first hand why Islamorada is known as the "sport-fishing capital of the world."
